Over 130 Militants Killed As Somali Troops Repel Kudhaa Attack

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army (SNA) has said that more than 130 Al-Shabaab militants were killed during a joint operation by elite Danab Special Forces and Jubbaland regional troops that repelled an attempted assault on the coastal town of Kudhaa in the Lower Juba region.

Military officials said the fighting lasted more than 24 hours and involved coordinated ground operations supported by international security partners. The army described the clash as one of the deadliest setbacks for the militants in the area in recent months.

They added that the attackers suffered heavy losses and were forced to retreat, leaving behind weapons and vehicles.

Following the operation, the army said government forces had secured Kudhaa and surrounding areas, with troops maintaining control and carrying out patrols to prevent further attacks.

“The joint forces inflicted significant losses on the militants and restored stability to the area,” the military said in a statement, adding that operations would continue to prevent insurgents from regrouping.

The Ministry of Defence praised the coordination between federal forces, Jubbaland troops and international partners, saying the outcome reflected improved operational capacity as Somalia intensifies its campaign against Al-Shabaab in the south of the country.
