GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has repatriated more than 30 citizens held in detention centers in Libya, as part of a wider campaign to protect vulnerable migrants and dismantle human trafficking networks.

According to government officials, the evacuees, had attempted to migrate irregularly through North Africa before being detained under harsh conditions.

“This is part of our national strategy to prevent further tragedies and protect vulnerable Somalis exposed to exploitation and abuse,” said Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Isaak Mohamud Mursal.

The Foreign Ministry said an additional 60 Somali nationals are expected to be flown home in the coming days, in cooperation with international partners.

Mursal urged families and local communities to help discourage illegal migration, calling it a “shared national responsibility” to ensure the safety and dignity of Somali citizens.

The government has pledged to step up public awareness campaigns, strengthen legal action against traffickers, and offer safer alternatives for young people at risk of exploitation.
