Several people arrested in security operation in Jowhar town

Security forces and police officers on Saturday arrested several people in a joint security operation Jowhar town  of Middle Shabelle region..

Local residents confirmed saying the operation was conducted in the town.

“Somali security forces with Somali police officers conducted a joint security operation in Jowhar town earlier today. they arrested several suspects,” said a local resident.

Security officer who declined his named told the media that has noted that operation was meant to inspect and hunt down Al-Shabaab suspects and to enhance safety of the town.

The officer said the suspects who are being held in custody will be questioned with a view to getting more information from them that may lead to the arrest of their colleagues still at large in the region.

He added that the operations will continue until the security of the district is assured following recent attacks.

Security officials believe armed groups have used residential areas as bases to prepare attacks and then mingled with residents in urban areas to carry them out.
