Parliament, Civil Society Agree To Strengthen Cooperation on Budget Transparency
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali civil society organizations, led by the Somali Non-State Actors (SONSA) Chairperson Osman Moallim, Tuesday held a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Budget, Finance, Planning, International Cooperation, and Financial Oversight at Villa Hargeysa to enhance collaboration on budget transparency and citizen participation.
The session, chaired by Hon. Abdi Ibrahim Warsame, focused on ways to involve civil society more actively in the early stages of national budget preparation and legislative oversight.
During the meeting, Mr. Moallim presented the GoleKaab Project, an initiative designed to connect citizens with parliamentary committees, promote transparency, and strengthen civic engagement in Somalia’s lawmaking and financial oversight processes.
Parliamentary committee members welcomed the partnership, commending the initiative for fostering accountability and public trust in governance. They pledged to hold regular consultative meetings with civil society groups and include them in legislative discussions before parliamentary debates begin.
The new collaboration is expected to improve Somalia’s budget planning and oversight processes by ensuring that public input is integrated into national decision-making, reinforcing democratic governance and institutional openness.
