Parliament Holds First Reading of 2026 National Budget

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s two Houses of Parliament on Saturday held a joint session to conduct the first reading of the government’s proposed 2026 national budget.

The sitting, chaired by Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, alongside the Senate’s Second Deputy Speaker, convened with 139 MPs and 28 Senators in attendance.

Deputy Finance Minister Cabdiqafaar Hassan Xaange presented the budget’s main allocations and priorities, marking the start of the legislative review process.

Abshirow directed the finance committees of both chambers to prepare for the second reading, which will be debated in upcoming sessions.
