Parliament speaker calls on PM to review cabinet, warns inconsistent will clan sharing formula
Lower House speaker Mohamed Osman Jawari on Saturday urged Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire to review the newly proposed cabinet warning it went against clan distribution system, a lawmaker confirmed Sunday.
In a letter to the premier, Jawari said the new lineup does not comply with the power-sharing formula that clans agreed on previously, according Professor Mohamed Omar Talha, a lawmaker who spoke to Goobjoog News.
The letter warned that the cabinet lineup could be rejected with 105 lawmakers submitting a petition calling for changes.
Talha said that prime minister has authority to form his cabinet independently.
“The prime minister has the power to appoint his cabinet and seek the House approval,” said Talha.
The new cabinet which was formed on 21st this month comprises of 26 members who include a former foreign affairs minister as finance minister and a former Journalist, in charge of foreign affairs.
