People of Lower Shabelle urged to work with the local administration to end criminal activities
People of lower Shabelle region have been urged to work with the local administration to bring an end to criminal activities amid Al-Shabaab fighters stepped up their attacks against the administration as well as Somali forces across the region.
A day ago a bomb hurled at Afgooye security checkpoint manned by Somali forces has caused unspecified casualties on the soldiers.
The governor of Lower Shabelle, Ibrahim Ali Adan said his administration is about to launched security operations to eliminated criminals and Al-Shabaab secret cells operating in the region.
“We stand strongly to fight and annihilate criminal activities and we eagerly urged the public to work hand in hand with the security forces in their commitment to smoke out Al-Shabaab and its sypathisers,”said Adan.
The governor accused the locals of failing to play their role of tipping off the administration about the imminent Al-Shabaab attacks.
“Peace is good for everybody, we have to work for its restoration and kick out all those undermining he security of region,” noted Adan.
Al-Shabaab fighters intermingling with the locals in the region have several times attacked AMISOM and SNA troops with hand grenades which caused casualties.
The group wants overthrow the intentionally regognised Somali government and force the AU to pull out its troops from Somalia.
AMISOM and SNA troop had drove Al-Shabaab fighters out the capital city, Mogadishu which was then the stronghold of the group.
In the recent weeks, the group carried out several deadly attacks that claimed lives of over one hundred people.
Analysts says the group is putting more efforts to disrupt Somalia’s upcoming elections, scheduled to take later this year.
