PHOTOS: Somali Danab Commandos Graduate After Completing Military Training

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Units of the Somali National Army, including troops from the 16th Danab Commando Brigade, have graduated after completing a military training programme aimed at strengthening their combat readiness and operational capabilities.

During the graduation ceremony, the soldiers conducted military drills and tactical demonstrations, showcasing the skills and knowledge acquired during the programme. Military officials also received briefings on the training, its outcomes and the troops’ preparedness for future operations.

Danab, meaning “lightning” in Somali, is an elite special operations component of the Somali National Army. The force has been trained, equipped and mentored with significant support from the United States and plays a leading role in operations against al-Shabaab and other security threats. The U.S. Army describes Danab as a Somali special operations unit trained by American and international military advisers.

Senior government and military officials attended the graduation, including Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, the Minister of Defence and the Commander of the Somali National Army.

Addressing the graduates, Barre praised the soldiers for completing the programme and acknowledged the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces. He urged them to apply their training effectively, fulfil their national duties and protect Somalia and its people.

The graduation is part of continuing efforts to develop a more capable, professional and operationally prepared Somali National Army as the country strengthens its capacity to assume greater responsibility for national security.
