PM Barre Abolishes $30 ‘Health Booklet’ Fee at Adden Adde Airport
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, today announced the immediate abolition of a USD 30 fee previously charged to departing passengers at Aden Adde International Airport, during an extensive inspection of the facility in Mogadishu.
The fee, imposed by the Ministry of Health under the pretext of a health booklet charge, was described by the Prime Minister as illegal.Prime Minister Hamza ordered that, effective immediately, no money may be collected from citizens inside the airport.
He clarified that health screenings and procedures related to the health booklet will now be completed at health facilities outside the airport, and that travelers are required to arrive having already obtained the booklet without paying any fee.
During the inspection, the Prime Minister listened directly to complaints from passengers waiting in service queues, underscoring that his government will not tolerate Somali citizens being subjected to hardship or poor treatment at government institutions.
He directed security, immigration, and health authorities to double their efforts and give priority attention to vulnerable travelers and those with special needs.In conclusion, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that the government will take firm action against any individuals involved in practices that damage the reputation of the airport or undermine the quality of public service delivery.
