GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has appointed veteran journalist Abdinaasir Ahmed Bashir as the new Director of Communications and Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister.

Bashir replaces Farhan Jimcale, who was recently approved by Parliament to serve on Somalia’s Independent Human Rights Commission.

A well-regarded figure in Somali journalism, Bashir has worked with the BBC Somali Service and held senior editorial roles at Goobjoog Media, Universal TV, and Som News TV. He also previously headed Jubbaland Radio and Television in Kismayo, where he helped expand the broadcaster’s reach and professional standards.

Bashir holds degrees in Communication from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and in International Relations from the United States International University–Africa (USIU–A) in Nairobi.

The Prime Minister’s office said the appointment aims to strengthen government communication and public engagement as Somalia continues political, economic, and security reforms.
