PM Barre Condemns Warta Nabadda Incident as Security Tightens in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamze Barre has condemned Wednesday’s gunfire at Warta Nabadda police station in Mogadishu, describing it as an attack on stability and development in the capital.
Speaking Thursday, Barre said the incident amounted to denying citizens their constitutional rights and aiding extremist groups.“The act of attacking the police station yesterday carries a message that Mogadishu does not deserve development and stability, and denies the citizens their constitutional rights and fighting against Khawaarij,” he said.
The Prime Minister called on security agencies to protect civilians and “prevent anyone who commits crime,” while urging the public to stand with government efforts to safeguard the city.
The remarks came as tension remained high in Mogadishu. Armoured vehicles were positioned by security forces along the road to Aden Adde International Airport, with reports of increased patrols around key government installations.
Wednesday’s clashes, which left several people dead and others injured, erupted after opposition politicians and their security personnel attempted to access the police station. While details remain contested, the incident has drawn concern from rights groups and international partners who fear it could deepen political divisions ahead of next year’s elections.
