PM Barre Inaugurates NIRA Conference, Targets Wider National ID Rollout

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has inaugurated the Second National Conference of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) in Mogadishu, an event spotlighting the government’s progress in delivering free and around-the-clock public services through the national ID system.

The conference brought together senior officials from federal ministries and agencies, representatives of federal member states, international partners and other dignitaries.

In his keynote address, NIRA Director General Abdiwali Timacadde said the authority has registered more than one million Somalis since its inception. He noted that NIRA aims to register an additional 15 million citizens over the next three years as part of its nationwide rollout.

The two-day conference will feature panel discussions and research presentations on strengthening Somalia’s national identification infrastructure. This year’s theme is “Strengthening the Fundamental Infrastructure for National ID Utilization.”
