GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has launched preparations for the 2026 Hajj season, praising recent reforms that improved services for Somali pilgrims despite early resistance.

Barre said Somalia had strengthened its reputation among countries offering high-quality care to pilgrims, crediting government measures aimed at efficiency and oversight.

He urged Somali scholars to play a greater role in guiding pilgrims on rituals and travel routes, and directed the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs to approve only qualified religious and medical staff for the journey.

The prime minister commended the ministry for its role in last year’s pilgrimage, saying the progress reflected broader gains in governance, public services and sustainable development.
