GOOBJOOG NEWS | BALANBALLE: Federal government of Somalia’s prime minister Hamza Abdi Barre has laid the foundation stones for a peace centre and an orphanage school in Balanballe following a reconciliation agreement between two clans whose prolonged conflict had affected communities in parts of Galmudug.

Prime Minister Barre inaugurated the projects after attending the completion of a peace agreement between clans from Balanballe and Guriceel districts in Galgaduud region.

The agreement, signed by Ugaas Hassan and Ugaas Mohamed in the presence of 52 traditional elders representing the two sides, is intended to formally end the conflict and strengthen peaceful relations between the communities.

The Peace House is planned as a centre for reconciliation, community cohesion and conflict prevention, while the orphanage school will provide education for children who lost their parents during the fighting.

The school is expected to accommodate up to 600 students, according to officials, offering education and other opportunities to children affected by the conflict.

PM Barre was accompanied by Interior Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, National Intelligence and Security Agency Director Mahad Mohamed Salad and Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Karie.

The projects form part of broader efforts to consolidate the reconciliation agreement and address some of the social consequences of the prolonged conflict. The government has also sought to involve traditional elders in resolving disputes and supporting stability in areas affected by clan violence.

The peace agreement and the new facilities are expected to provide a foundation for closer relations between communities in Balanballe, Guriceel and surrounding areas, while directing greater attention toward children and families affected by years of conflict.
