Somali PM Barre Meets Iraqi President in Baghdad

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAGHDAD: Federal government of Somalia Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre Monday held talks with Iraqi President Abdi-Ladif Jamal Rashid to discuss and enhance bilateral relations between Somalia and Iraq.

According to sources privy to the meeting, the discussion “served as a significant step towards strengthening cooperation in various sectors, including security, diplomacy, and education.”

Barre briefed the Iraqi leader of the progress Somalia has made over the years and reiterated the need to further deepen cooperation between the two nations for the mutual benefit of citizens of the two nations.

The Prime Minister extended a message from the federal government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who highlighted the mutual benefits of strengthened cooperation and emphasized the importance of working together for regional security and stability.

On his part, President Rashid expressed his appreciation for the visit, recognizing it as a positive initiative to improve the ties between the two nations.

He further noted the potential for collaboration in security efforts, diplomatic engagements, and providing educational opportunities for Somali students in Iraqi universities.
