PM Barre Names Dr. Ahmed Nageeye as Head of Higher Education Committee

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has appointed Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Nageeye as Secretary General of the National Higher Education Committee, a move expected to bring experienced leadership in efforts to improve the country’s universities.

Dr. Nageeye is expected to spearhead initiatives to raise academic standards, strengthen governance and address persistent challenges in the sector. Officials said his background and expertise made him well-suited to guide reforms at a time when Somalia is rebuilding its institutions.

The cabinet had earlier approved the committee’s membership, and the Ministry of Education welcomed the appointment, calling it a significant step in advancing higher learning.

Somalia’s government has prioritised education as a driver of development, with the new committee tasked with ensuring the sector produces a skilled workforce for the country’s future.
