PM Barre Praises Security Forces as Mogadishu Reports Major Decline in Insecurity

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia says a sustained security effort has significantly reduced insecurity in Mogadishu, with government figures showing an 86.06% decline in security incidents in the capital between 2023 and 2026.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre cited the figure during a meeting with senior security commanders in Mogadishu on Saturday, as the government reviewed the security situation in the capital and recognised national forces for their role in maintaining security.

The meeting brought together the defence and interior ministers, the governor of Banadir region and commanders from Somalia’s intelligence, army and police forces.

The reported decline was attributed to what officials described as a coordinated security plan implemented across the capital over the past three years.

PM Barre urged security commanders to maintain the gains and ensure that no individual or group is allowed to undermine the security of Mogadishu.

He praised the security forces for what he described as significant progress in securing the capital and other parts of the country, while stressing the need for continued vigilance.

The figures were presented as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen its security institutions and take greater responsibility for national security.

The government did not provide a breakdown of the incidents included in the 86.06% figure or explain how the reduction was calculated.
