PM Barre Reaffirms Defence of Sovereignty in Meeting with China’s Envoy

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has reaffirmed his government’s determination to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, during talks with China’s ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu.

Barre said the federal government would not compromise on protecting Somalia’s unity, stressing that national interests remain paramount amid what he described as external interference. He said the government was also intensifying efforts to defeat militant groups to ensure lasting security and stability across the country.

The prime minister said safeguarding sovereignty goes hand in hand with strengthening internal security, adding that the fight against terrorism remains central to preserving Somalia’s statehood.

Barre also welcomed international support for Somalia’s position, saying firm diplomatic backing was essential to confronting external challenges and reinforcing the country’s standing on the global stage.

The meeting underscored the government’s message that Somalia intends to defend its independence while pursuing security and stability through both domestic action and international engagement.
