PM Barre Reaffirms Somalia’s Push to Build Professional National Army

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has reiterated his government’s commitment to building a modern, professional national army capable of securing the country and leading the fight against terrorism.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of elite Gorgor forces trained in Turkey and at the TurkSom military academy in Mogadishu, the Prime Minister said Somalia’s future depends on strong, disciplined security institutions.
“A professional army is the foundation of a self-reliant Somali state,” Hamza said. “You carry the responsibility of defending our nation, restoring our dignity, and protecting the unity of our people.”
He emphasized that the government is investing in the military not just through training, but also through leadership development and capacity building aimed at transforming the Somali National Army into a credible force.
Hamza thanked the government and people of Turkey for their longstanding military cooperation, saying the partnership has been instrumental in rebuilding Somalia’s defense infrastructure.
The Prime Minister urged the newly graduated soldiers to uphold professionalism and integrity, and to play a frontline role in securing the country from extremist threats.
