GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has praised Somalia’s aviation sector for its rapid recovery, saying the country’s progress in regaining control of its airspace and enhancing flight safety reflects a broader national comeback.

In a statement marking International Civil Aviation Day, PM Barre said Somalia’s achievements in restoring aviation services have played a central role in economic growth, stability and reconnecting the country with the world.

He described the sector’s revival as proof of Somalia’s ability to rebuild and manage essential national infrastructure after decades of disruption.

Barre highlighted 2023 as a turning point, when Somalia secured Class A status in Air Navigation Services, the highest global standard for airspace safety and management. The milestone, he said, placed Somalia among countries capable of independently managing complex air navigation systems.

The Prime Minister commended the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) and the Ministry of Transport for transforming a once-collapsed system into a fully functional and internationally recognised aviation framework.

He said their work has strengthened investor confidence, improved connectivity and enhanced national security.

Barre reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading airports, improving service quality and further integrating Somalia into global aviation networks as part of the country’s long-term reconstruction and development strategy.
