PM Barre Says Somalia Ready for Equal Partnerships as Reforms Strengthen Stability
GOOBJOOG NEWS | TANGIER, Morocco: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre told the MEDays International Forum that Somalia is no longer a nation in recovery but one ready to engage the world as an equal partner, a message aimed at reinforcing confidence in the country’s reforms and stability.
In a keynote speech at the forum’s closing session, Hamza said Somalia has entered “a new chapter,” marked by security gains, political cohesion and ongoing institutional reforms. He stressed that these changes are not symbolic but fundamental to Somalia’s ability to play a constructive role in regional and global affairs.
“We did not come here seeking charity,” he said. “We came seeking partnership, ready to contribute ideas, engage in meaningful exchanges, and take part in addressing the challenges we collectively face.”
By positioning Somalia as a contributor rather than a beneficiary, the prime minister sought to signal to investors, development partners and neighbouring states that the country is prepared for deeper cooperation.
Officials say the message is key to boosting international confidence and accelerating economic and diplomatic engagement.
PM Barre also argued that Africa must move from the margins of global decision-making to a more assertive role, aligning Somalia with a broader push for Global South leadership.
The MEDays Forum, which closed after four days of discussions, ended with Somalia securing new partnerships that the government says will support national priorities and strengthen its long-term international standing.
