GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has said the country’s long-term peace and stability depend on women playing a central role in leadership and decision-making.

Speaking at a meeting with women leaders from civil society, the security sector, and governance forums, Barre said “lasting statehood and sustainable peace cannot be achieved unless women are given a visible, decision-making role.”

He praised Somali women for their contribution to rebuilding the nation after decades of conflict, saying their participation is essential to national unity, security, and development.

PM Barre’s comments signal a renewed government commitment to gender inclusion ahead of Somalia’s next elections, a move that could strengthen political legitimacy and social cohesion as the country works toward stability and democratic reform.
