PM Barre Seeks Energy, Industrial Cooperation during China Visit

YINCHUAN, China: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has visited one of China’s largest energy and chemical hubs as Mogadishu looks to strengthen cooperation with Beijing in energy and industrial development.
Barre, accompanied by Somalia’s ambassador to China Hodan Osman, toured the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a major zone for industrial transformation and clean energy transition.
The Somali leader said Ningxia offered valuable lessons for Somalia’s own National Transformation Plan, which seeks to expand energy generation, attract investment and create jobs for the country’s youth.
“Somalia aspires to build a modern energy sector, create new industrial opportunities, and accelerate job creation for the nation’s youth,” Barre said.
The visit underlined growing Somalia-China ties as Mogadishu pursues foreign partnerships to drive economic growth.
