PM Barre to ask MPs for more time to pick ministers as one month deadline lapses
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Barre is today heading to the Lower House to seek more time to put up a cabinet after failing to meet the one-month deadline.
Goobjoog News has learnt that Barre will be asking MPs to grant him additional time to complete the exercise which requires a balancing act within the 4.5 clan power distribution arrangement.
Although the Provisional Constitution is silent on any timelines for the appointment of a cabinet, the Lower House Standing Orders pronounce itself on the matter. Article 51 (3) of the House Standing Orders requires a newly appointed Prime Minister to table a list of Council of Ministers before the House for approval within 30 days.
The Order does not however set any consequences for a breach of this provision.
