PM Barre Urges Diaspora to Back National Army, Democracy Efforts

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has called on the country’s diaspora to play a stronger role in national development, urging them to support the armed forces and engage in Somalia’s democratic transition.
Speaking at a government event themed “Defense and Democracy,” Barre said the diaspora remains a vital pillar of Somalia’s long-term strategy for peace and progress.
“You are a cornerstone of Vision 2060,” the Prime Minister said, referring to Somalia’s roadmap for economic growth, institutional reform, and national security. “The unity of our country depends on your continued connection to your homeland, through participation, investment, and patriotism.”
Barre stressed the importance of diaspora involvement in the electoral process, calling it key to restoring citizens’ rights and strengthening Somalia’s democratic institutions. He also emphasized the need for continued moral and material support to the national armed forces.
The Prime Minister highlighted his administration’s commitment to deeper engagement with overseas Somalis, describing the diaspora as “indispensable partners” in Somalia’s state-building agenda.
The event marked a public recognition of the diaspora’s growing role in governance, security, and economic recovery, as Somalia navigates its post-conflict transition toward stability and constitutional order.
