GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somali Prime Minister Hamze Abdi Barre has shared his grief with the victims of last night’s fire at the main market in Kismayo, Somalia’s Jubaland state.

“I pray to God to give a good replacement to the businessmen who lost their property in the fire that broke out tonight in the Kismayo market,” said the Somali Premier.

“I commend the Jubbaland administration and businessmen for how they succeeded in extinguishing the fire without any loss of life,” added Prime Minister Barre.

The Tuesday night fire left a trail of destruction in its wake after property worth millions of shillings was razed to the ground.

The fire, which started in some sections of the market, was made worse after it spread to some fuel stations nearby, causing huge explosions.

Concerted efforts from municipal firefighters and members of the public successfully brought the fire under control.

No casualties were reported and investigations are said to be going on to unravel the cause of the fire since its cause could not be immediately established last night.

The recent incident comes a few months after another massive inferno engulfed the Waheen Market in Somaliland, causing injuries to people and razing down properties worth millions of shillings.
