PM Khaire travel to Saudi Arabia for two days visit
Prime Minister Hassan Khaire has left for Saudi Arabia following an invitation from King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
The PM said in a twitter post he will be holding bilateral talks with Saudi officials during the visit.
“Today, I left the country for an official visit at the invitation of the brotherly Saudi Arabia. I will meet with officials there to hold bilateral talks to strengthen relations between the two brotherly Countries,” the PM said.
The PM was accompanied by ministers among them Information Minister Dahir Gelle who noted the PM’s visit was geared towards strengthening relations between the two countries.
“The prime minister will have meetings with Saudi Arabia leaders to discuss the strengthening relationship between the two countries, the region and the international changing issues,” Gelle told reporters.
The PM’s visit follows public condemnation over his government’s decision to declare support for Saudi Arabia over a diplomatic row with Canada.
Somalia’s relations with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been particularly uneasy since last year after the country’s current government in Mogadishu announced it would remain neutral over the Qatar diplomatic crisis with its Gulf Arab neighbors.
