PM Roble orders suspension of Benadiri elections after disputes arise

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The Somali Prime Minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble has called on the Benadiri State Elections Implementation Team (SEIT) to suspend elections for five Benadiri seats after elders accused him of meddling in the procedure for allocating seats.

The Prime Minister said that he would appoint a committee tasked to resolve the issues and act immediately.

“I have received complaints from some traditional elders of the Benadiri community, regarding the committee of elders and civil society that selects delegates to elect seats in the House of the People of Benadiri. To resolve this complaint, I will appoint a committee consisting of members of the Federal Electoral Commission (FEIT) and my Office, to investigate this matter and report back to me as soon as possible,” said Roble.

The recent remarks made by Prime Minister Roble Members happened  following claims that a seat belonging to Fiqi sub-clan had been moved to another sub-clan.
