Police Arrest 11 Off-Duty Soldiers for Illegal Possession of Firearms in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somali police have arrested 11 suspects who are serving soldiers after they were found illegally carrying weapons in the centre of Mogadishu.
The arrests followed security operations conducted in several parts of the capital aimed at tightening security and curbing the circulation of illegal firearms within the city.
According to security officials, the detained soldiers had violated standing orders issued by security agencies, which clearly prohibit off-duty military personnel from moving around the capital while armed.
Police said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen overall security and prevent any actions that could endanger public safety.
The 11 suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be presented before the relevant court to face legal proceedings and appropriate action.
The Somali Police Force has previously issued security directives banning off-duty soldiers from carrying weapons within Mogadishu.
