Nine Soldiers Detained for Firing Live Ammunition During Independence Day Celebrations

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Police in Banadir District have detained nine Somali National Army soldiers accused of disobeying orders and firing live ammunition during the 26 June Independence Day celebrations in Mogadishu.

Police had previously issued a strict ban on the use of live ammunition during the celebrations to ensure public safety.

According to the Bandir Regional District Police Command authorities are tracing other individuals involved in the incident.

“An investigation is underway, as there are casualties resulting from the illegal shots fired last night. Security agencies are also looking for several other soldiers,” a statement from the Banadir regional police stated.

The detainment underscores the Somali police’s commitment to upholding safety regulations and ensuring the well-being of the public during national celebrations.
