Police Impose New Restrictions on Armed Personnel in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Police in Mogadishu have banned armed security personnel from using Fekonta motorcycles and barred off-duty soldiers from appearing in public as part of tightened security measures.
The Banadir Regional Police Command said the move follows the circulation of videos on social media showing armed individuals carrying out robbery attacks against civilians in Mogadishu, raising public concern over safety in the city.
In a statement, police said they had arrested a suspect identified as D/le Liiban Mustaf Aadan, who is accused of carrying out a series of robberies in several districts of the capital. The suspect is being held in custody and will be transferred to court to face charges in line with the law.
“Armed soldiers who are not on duty are not permitted to be seen within the capital. Any security personnel found violating directives issued by security institutions will face strict legal action,” the police said.
Authorities said security in Mogadishu was gradually improving as police and other security forces step up efforts to curb crime and protect civilians across the city.
