Police in Galkaayo town are unable to maintain security due to lack of personnel, officials say
Puntland police in Galkaayo town has failed to maintain the security of the town as the police were outnumbered by crimes , police officials said on Sunday.
Speaking to Goobjoog News, Mudug police commissioner, Abdirashid Hassan said the number of the police in Galkaayo town are unable to maintain law and order.
“The town needs hundreds of well-equipped soldiers, we have a handful police officers here who work day and night but their work is overwhelmed by the number of the crimes committed in the town,” said Hassan.
Hassan called on Puntland government to deploy more police officers in the town.
On May 7, a pistol-wielding middle-aged man shot dead the General Manager of Telecommunications Company, Somtel Omar Mohamed Abdulle.
On June 8, just a few minutes before fast-breaking dusk prayer, unidentified assailants killed woman peace activist and the head of Mudug Women Association Dhudi Yusuf Adan at her home in Galkayo’s Garsoor neighbourhood.
Galkayo, located at Puntland’s southern gate, witnessed a series of targeted killings and bomb attacks, with deadliest in recent months being suicide bombing that claimed six people on March 31.
