Police officer arrested following suicide bomb attack at Beledweyne

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BELEDWEYNE: A police officer has been arrested following a suicide truck bombing that targeted a security checkpoint in Beledweyne, killing at least 36 people and wounding 40 others.

According to Beledweyne police commander Ahmed Ali Adan, the arrested officer was responsible for the security checkpoint where the car bomb managed to pass through.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) condemned the Al-Shabab suicide attack.

Government forces have regained territory in the central region, including Haradhere town which was under Al-shabaab control since president Hassan Sheikh Mahamud declared war against the militant group and promised to restore peace and stability in the country.
