President Farmaajo appoints new security advisor

Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has appointed Abdi Said Mohamed Ali as his new presidential security advisor.

Ali becomes the third security advisor within a period of 9 months since the formation of Farmaajo’s government in February.

Education background

He attended Harvard University where he completed in the field of strategy.

He also completed security studies from Clingendael Institute of International Relations in the Netherlands.

1993-1996 attained bachelor degree in Commerce from Delta University.

1998 – attended Van Hall University.

1999-2000- completed his postgraduate in Economics and analytical journalism from the University of Texas, Dallas, USA.

Work experience

Ali is a lecturer of Political Science in University of Nairobi.

He was a lecture at Foreign Service Institute of Kenya in Mogadishu.

He worked with Italian Embassy.

He also joined Intergovernmental authority on development (IGAD) in security and maritime borders section.

He was the country director for Nordic International Support Foundation where he executed many projects across the country during his tenure.

2004-2005 – he was a technical advisor for the transitional federal government of the late Abdullahi Yussuf.

In the last two years, he was a security advisor to European Union

He replaces Hussein Moalin Mohamud.
