President Farmajo meets Erdogan in Istanbul
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo on Friday met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul for talks on his way back to the country after three days official visit to Italy.
According to a post on President Farmajo’s official Twitter account, the two leaders discussed how to further strengthen their strong bilateral relations through increased Win-Win cooperation.
“Turkey is a valuable partner in Somalia’s development and progress.” said president Farmajo on twitter.
The closed-door meeting between Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Vahdettin Pavilion in the Uskudar district lasted for hours.
Erdogan visited Somalia in 2016 and previously in 2011 when he was prime minister.
Since 2011, Turkey is a strong and close ally to Somalia and helped the Somali people in important sectors like education, health, roads, ports, airports, fisheries, and energy.
Last September, Turkey opened its largest overseas military training academy in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
It has the capacity to train more than 1,500 troops at a time, according to the Somali government.
