President Hassan Sheikh Meets UK Development Minister, Reaffirms Strategic Ties
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday received a senior delegation from the United Kingdom led by Development and Africa Minister Jenny Chapman, in talks focused on security, development and deepening bilateral cooperation.
The meeting, held in Mogadishu on February 12, 2026, underscored what both sides described as a strengthening strategic partnership between Somalia and the UK.President Hassan Sheikh briefed the visiting delegation on what he termed visible progress in state-building, security sector reform and the country’s democratic process.
He emphasized Somalia’s commitment to consolidating gains in stability while advancing institutional reforms and investment opportunities.The president also thanked the British government for its continued support, particularly in efforts aimed at promoting peace, countering terrorism and advancing development programmes considered priorities for the Somali people.
Minister Chapman reaffirmed the UK government’s commitment to sustained cooperation with Somalia, highlighting the importance of stability in Somalia to the wider Horn of Africa and the African continent. She noted that London remains engaged in supporting initiatives that contribute to long-term peace and economic growth.
The United Kingdom is among Somalia’s key international partners, providing support in areas including security sector reform, humanitarian assistance and governance.The meeting comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen international partnerships while navigating security challenges and pursuing political reforms.
