President Mohamud Stresses Security Reforms in Talks with New AFRICOM Chief

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said his government is determined to press ahead with security sector reforms and stabilization efforts, as he met the new commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, in Mogadishu.
President Mohamud praised AFRICOM’s support in Somalia’s fight against Al-Shabaab and underlined that U.S. military backing remains vital to his administration’s push to build stronger national security institutions.
“The Federal Government of Somalia is committed to advancing peace and stability, in close cooperation with international partners,” President Mohamud said, highlighting reforms aimed at ensuring Somali forces can increasingly take the lead in security operations.
The visit by Anderson, who was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador Richard H. Riley, signaled continued U.S. engagement in Somalia. Washington has been a key partner in counterterrorism operations and in efforts to stabilize the Horn of Africa.
The president’s message reflects his drive to show progress on security reforms as the country prepares for greater responsibility in countering insurgents, with international troop drawdowns on the horizon.
