GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army (SNA) has ramped up its operations against the Al-Shabaab militant group, driving them out of caves and hideouts in the rural areas of Middle Shabelle.

This latest offensive coincides with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud’s tour of frontline areas, where he held critical security meetings in Moqokori district alongside Hirshabelle leadership and senior military commanders.

The President’s visit came just hours after an attempted attack on his convoy early Tuesday in Mogadishu.

“At approximately 10:32 AM, an explosion targeted the convoy in the Xamar-Jajab district of Mogadishu while the President was en route to join our troops on the frontlines in Hirshabelle for Iftar. The attack was thwarted, and the President safely arrived at his destination as planned,” an official government statement reads in part.

The head of state was en route to join Somali troops in Hirshabelle for Iftar when security forces successfully foiled the attack.

However, the assault resulted in civilian casualties, underscoring Al-Shabaab’s increasing desperation as they face continuous defeats at the hands of the SNA.

During his visit, President Hassan Sheikh received briefings from the Hirshabelle Vice President and frontline military commanders, who provided updates on both the progress and challenges of the operation.

Commanders noted a significant morale boost among the troops, emphasizing the impact of the President’s presence on the battlefield as he closely monitored operations, assessed soldiers’ needs, and witnessed their bravery firsthand.

Security forces are currently conducting a thorough investigation, with further details on casualties to be released in due course.

Somalia remains steadfast in its fight against extremism. With national unity and the support of international partners, the country continues its path toward lasting peace and stability.
