President Mohamud Advances Consensus in Talks with Future Council

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday held a landmark consultative meeting with members of the Somali Future Council at Villa Somalia, part of broader efforts to secure consensus ahead of key political milestones.

The talks brought together senior federal officials and leading political stakeholders to align positions on the electoral roadmap, constitutional review and ongoing security operations against Al-Shabaab.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre also attended the session, underscoring the administration’s push for inclusive dialogue as preparations continue for the next phase of electoral reforms.

According to the presidency, discussions focused on implementing the 2026 electoral framework, advancing completion of the provisional constitution and consolidating gains made in territories recovered from militant control. Officials described the meeting as a step toward reinforcing federal institutions and ensuring a coordinated political transition.

President Mohamud was quoted as saying that sustained dialogue among national leaders is essential to safeguarding security and governance progress, and to demonstrating institutional stability to citizens and international partners.

Participants also reviewed the government’s response to drought conditions affecting several regions, with the presidency reaffirming its commitment to coordinating humanitarian assistance alongside security and reform priorities.

The meeting forms part of a wider federal outreach campaign aimed at strengthening cooperation among political actors and maintaining momentum toward a unified and democratic transition.
