President Mohamud Affirms Somalia’s Contribution to EAC as Mogadishu Hosts Bloc’s Conference

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reiterated his country’s commitment to fostering peace and economic development in the East African region.

Speaking during the inaugural East African Community (EAC) conference in Somalia since the Horn of African nation ascended to the EAC, President Mohamud said Somalia would play a pivotal role in fostering peace, economic development and cohesion in the EAC.

He also noted that Somalia was striving to become a destination for economic investment in the East African region while highlighting the economic potential of the country.

The EAC conference which brings together representatives from the EAC countries, diplomats and stakeholders from different backgrounds is based on the theme, ‘Strengthening Regional Cooperation in the East Africa Community.

The conference builds on three pillars namely promoting regional integration and facilitating knowledge exchange.

Somalia ascended into the EAC in March this year after it deposited all the requisite instruments with the EAC Secretariat in Arusha. The EAC approved Somalia’s entry last November.
