President Mohamud appoints Abdusalam Omer to spearhead Somalia’s quest for entry into the EAC 

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appointed former Foreign Affairs Minister Abdusalam Omer to spearhead Somalia’s quest for entry into the East Africa Community.

Dr. Abdusalam has in the past served Somalia as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Former Central Bank Governor, and in other capacities. 

The appointment of the envoy comes following concerted efforts by the President Mohamud to ensure that Somalia is included into the East African Community (EAC), whose catchment is vital in terms of trade and development.

In the same breath, EAC in July, instructed relevant committees in a communiqué at the Heads of States meeting in Arusha to expedite Somalia’s accession to the regional intergovernmental economic body.
