GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUSAMAREB: Federal government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug state, beginning a visit expected to focus on strengthening national security forces, development projects and engagement with communities in the central region.

President Mohamud and his delegation were received by Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye, federal and state officials and representatives of the local community.

The visit comes as the federal government seeks to strengthen the capacity of Somalia’s armed forces and expand state authority in areas affected by insecurity.

The President is expected to attend a ceremony marking the completion of training for units of the Somali National Army during his stay in Galmudug.

The event is expected to highlight the government’s continued efforts to develop a more capable national force as Somalia assumes greater responsibility for its security.

Galmudug remains strategically important in the fight against Al-Shabaab, with government forces and local forces conducting operations across parts of central Somalia.

The president’s presence in Dhusamareb also provides an opportunity for federal and Galmudug authorities to assess security priorities and coordination in the region.

Beyond security, the president is expected to inaugurate development projects implemented in different parts of Galmudug.

The projects are intended to improve public services and contribute to the development of economic and social infrastructure.

The visit therefore combines two of the government’s key priorities in central Somalia: strengthening security while expanding access to development and public services.

President Mohamud is also expected to meet representatives of different sections of Galmudug society during the visit.

The discussions will provide an opportunity for residents and community leaders to raise concerns and offer views on security, governance, development and Somalia’s wider political future.

For the federal government, such engagements are important as it seeks to strengthen cooperation with federal member states and build public support for its state-building agenda.

The visit comes at a significant period for Somalia, as the government continues efforts to consolidate security gains, strengthen federal institutions and expand development programmes beyond the capital.

The president’s programme in Galmudug is expected to provide a clearer picture of the government’s priorities for the region, with security, infrastructure and closer engagement with local communities at the centre of the visit.
