President Mohamud Attends Raila Odinga State Funeral in Nairobi

GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday attended the State Funeral of Kenya’s former Prime Minister and veteran opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

President Mohamud joined regional leaders, heads of state and international dignitaries in paying tribute to Odinga, a towering figure in Kenyan and African politics whose career spanned eight decades, from 1945 to 2025.

The Somali leader’s presence underscored the strong ties between Mogadishu and Nairobi and the broader regional respect for Odinga’s lifelong advocacy for democracy, justice and Pan-African unity.

Following Odinga’s death on October 15, President Mohamud extended condolences to Kenya, describing him as “a towering statesman whose legacy will endure.”

Saturday’s ceremony formed part of a week of national mourning and events honouring Odinga, who is being accorded a full State Funeral in recognition of his contribution to Kenya’s democratic journey.
