President Mohamud, AU Chair Discuss Security Gains and Regional Stability

GOOBJOOG NEWS | ADDIS ABABA: Federal Republic of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf on Monday to review progress on Somalia’s stabilization efforts and regional security cooperation.
The meeting, held at AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, focused on Somalia’s ongoing security transition, national reconciliation, and the African Union’s role in supporting peacebuilding.
Youssouf praised Somalia’s recent gains in improving security and fostering unity, calling the country’s efforts “critical” for long-term stability across the Horn of Africa.
President Mohamud welcomed the AU’s support, stressing that sustained international backing remains essential to consolidate recent achievements and overcome remaining challenges.
The talks come amid Somalia’s push to assume full responsibility for its national security as African Union forces gradually draw down under the ATMIS transition plan.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a coordinated approach in securing peace and development in Somalia and the wider East African region.
