President Mohamud Awards Djibouti’s Guelleh National Honor for Support to Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DJIBOUTI: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has awarded a National Honor Medal to Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh in recognition of Djibouti’s long-standing support for Somalia’s peace and state-building efforts.

The ceremony, held during events marking the 25th anniversary of the 2000 Arta Peace Conference, celebrated Djibouti’s role in helping restore Somalia’s transitional government after nearly a decade of conflict and state collapse.

“The contribution and support of the Republic of Djibouti to Somalia will never fade from our nation’s memory,” President Mohamud said, adding that the medal represents the “brotherhood, cooperation, and mutual respect” between the two nations.

Guelleh, a key regional mediator, was instrumental in hosting the Arta Conference that laid the foundation for Somalia’s post-war political recovery.

The two leaders reaffirmed their countries’ close ties and pledged to strengthen cooperation on regional peace and stability. President Mohamud is in Djibouti to attend a commemorative event in Arta town alongside Somali officials and international partners reviewing progress since the landmark accord.
