GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called for the implementation of a comprehensive national weapons and ammunition management strategy in the country.

Speaking while chairing a National Security Council meeting in Mogadishu Tuesday, the president said that the strategic initiative aims to regulate the possession and usage of weapons and ammunition across the nation, thereby enhancing security measures and mitigating the risk of illicit arms proliferation.

The President further stated that the call for the implementation of a national weapons and ammunition management strategy underscores Somalia’s commitment to strengthening security frameworks and promoting peace and stability in the region.

During the meeting, President Mohamud also addressed the completion of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) withdrawal and outlined the country’s security strategies for the post-AMISOM era.

The meeting, attended by top security officials, focused on the gradual drawdown of multinational forces under the AMISOM banner and the subsequent handover of security responsibilities to Somalia’s own security forces.
