President Mohamud Calls for Increased Investment in Somalia’s Energy Sector

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DAR ES SALAAM: Federal government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said there is need for increased investment in Somalia’s energy sector to support industrial growth, modernize infrastructure, and improve public services.
In his keynote address at the Africa Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, president Mohamud said Somalia has a vast potential in solar and wind energy, and underscored the country’s strategic location and natural resources as key drivers for sustainable energy development.
The president reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to expanding its energy capacity as a key pillar for modernization and economic development.
“The progress Somalia aspires to achieve requires affordable and accessible energy. Currently, 50% of our population lacks sufficient electricity. Therefore, we are prioritizing investments in the energy sector to enable industrial growth, modernize infrastructure, and improve public services,” he stated.
The Africa Energy Summit aims to strengthen collective efforts in addressing the continent’s energy challenges.
During the summit, the Dar es Salaam Declaration will be adopted, reaffirming the commitment of African Heads of State to ensuring reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy across the continent.
President Mohamud’s address reinforced Somalia’s position as a forward-thinking nation embracing renewable energy solutions and seeking meaningful partnerships to accelerate development and energy access.
