GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is convening the country’s most inclusive national dialogue since 2022, bringing together intellectuals, regional leaders, and civil society in a two-tiered consultation set to begin on May 1.

The initiative comes amid major security gains against al-Shabaab and seeks to align military operations with cohesive political and administrative strategies at both federal and state levels.

A key focus of the National Consultative Council is implementing the “Final Push” military campaign aimed at clearing remaining al-Shabaab strongholds in Middle Shabelle and Jubba regions.

Simultaneously, technical teams will draft interim governance frameworks for liberated areas, long a source of friction between Mogadishu and federal member states.

President Mohamud is also holding parallel discussions with scholars and business leaders to build consensus on constitutional amendments ahead of planned one-person-one-vote elections.

Observers say the dual-track approach is essential to avoiding post-liberation power vacuums and ensuring lasting stability.

With Puntland recently ending a year-long boycott and rejoining federal institutions, the forum is also seen as a critical trust-building platform.

International stakeholders, including ATMIS and UNSOM, have welcomed the process as a timely step forward in Somalia’s political transition.
