President Mohamud Establishes National Fund to Bolster Climate Action
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has established a National Climate Fund (NCF) which will facilitate mobilization of resources towards enhancement of Somalia’s climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.
The fund which was established following the president’s assent to the Presidential Decree No. 235 will play a crucial role in boosting government’s efforts to establish an effective national climate change policy and enhance access to climate financing, facilitating inclusive climate change mitigation and adaptation projects across the nation.
“The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, based on the reform and development of the national climate change plan, established the National Climate Fund by Presidential Decree LR.235,” read a statement from the Somali Presidency.
At the same time, the president appointed Mr. Liban Dahir Obsiye as the NCF Executive Director.
Obsiye brings extensive experience in financial policy is expected to lead the fund with a focus on transparency and efficiency.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move to ensure the effective mobilization and utilization of resources aimed at combating climate change.
