Office of the Attorney General while announcing the release of the prisoners said that the convicts, accused of minor offenses, have served the majority of their sentences and were granted amnesty by the President in honor of the Holy Month.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Farhan Hussein Mohamed addressed the freed individuals, encouraging them to embrace this second chance and expressing gratitude towards President Mohamud for his merciful decision.

“This amnesty is a testament to our nation’s commitment to justice and rehabilitation. It’s an opportunity for you to reintegrate into society and contribute positively,” Mohamed stated.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor said that during their time in prison, the freed convicts had access to free medical care, educational opportunities, and recreational facilities which is part of efforts by the Attorney General’s Office to safeguard prisoner rights and promote their well-being within Somalia’s correctional system.
